Compatible Cartridges FAQ
Frequently Asked
Questions About OEM Compatible Cartridges
Will I see a difference between brand new OEM
(Original Equipment Manufacturer) cartridges and OEM Compatible Cartridges ?
NO, cartridges are re-manufactured to OEM specifications. This means that quality, performance, and yield (page count) are equal to or better than OEM cartridges. Before a cartridge is delivered, it undergoes a series of rigorous tests
to ensure quality.
Compatible cartridges are virtually indistinguishable from OEM cartridges.
Why would we switch from OEM to Compatible Cartridges?
Beside the obvious environmental benefits of recycling, there is tremendous cost savings.
What happens if I experience a print quality issue?
If a cartridge does not
meet your expectations, simply notify Printer Solutions and place a sample of
the print quality in the box with the cartridge and mark it
appropriately (QC).
What does “compatible” actually mean?
The definition of compatible can vary from company to company. Unless a cartridge’s component parts are replaced with new after market components, it’s not considered to be compatible. A typical process involves inspection
and replacement of key components such as the OPC (Organic
Photoconductor Drum – more commonly know as the blue or green metallic
cylinder in the cartridge). In addition, component such as the corona
wire assembly, wiper blade, PCR (Primary Charge Roller), and magnetic
rollers all require replacement as needed.
One of the most critical parts of a cartridge is the OPC drum. Re-manufacturers should replace the original OPC drum in all cartridges with a new after market drum. New after market drums are made specifically for re-manufacturers, to have a harder and more durable surface than the OEM. The advantage is consistent sharp, clearer output.
Due to various printer engines and their relative cartridge types, different drums are used. Re-manufacturers have conducted extensive testing and research to ensure optimum performance from each type of drum.
How do I know I am getting the same
amount of toner and therefore page count from a compatible
compared to a new one?
Toner type and quantity (in grams) is dependent upon printer / cartridge model. Remanufacturers use precise toner dispensing systems called PerFil to accurately fill each cartridge with the OEM specified amount of toner. Therefore, a compatible cartridge will yield the same as an OEM cartridge at industry standard 5% page coverage (standard business letter). Peak performance can be achieved by adjusting the density setting and / or resolution on your printer.
Does using compatible cartridges put your laser printers at risk?
No, the use of non-OEM cartridges does not affect the laser printer or its standard warranty. Users should expect a warranty that protects the printer, as well as the cartridge.
Here is what the industry says:
HP’s warranty: For HP
printer products, the use of a non-HP toner cartridge or a refilled
toner cartridge does not affect either the warranty to the customer or
any HP support contract with the customer. However, if printer failure
or damage is attributable to the use of a non-HP or refilled toner
cartridge, HP will charge its standard time and materials charges to
service the printer for particular failure or damage.
In fact, most calls we
receive about “cartridge problems” ultimately turn out to be printer
maintenance or repair problems. Go to our tips page for more information.
